From the guides
- GuideYarn textures explained: tweed, slub, chainette, halo, marl and moreWhat the texture words on a yarn page mean — tweed, slub and thick-and-thin, chainette and blown, brushed and halo, marl and gradient, felted singles, heathers, sheen and glitter — how each knits and what to make in it, with the lines in stock, and which textures knitters are asking for now.
- GuideCotton, linen and summer yarn: which to knit withHow cotton, linen, hemp and their blends behave on the needles and in the wash, why they knit differently from wool, which to choose for a top, a tee or a summer shawl, and the warm-weather yarns we stock by weight.
- GuideYarn brands we stock, and what each is known forThe 24 yarn and needle brands on our shelves, grouped by what they do best — hand-dyed merino, self-striping and gradient yarns, American and British wool, alpaca, luxury fibers, summer cottons and linens, needles — with the line to start with from each.
More from Juniper Moon
Juniper Moon Farm makes the yarns we sell most of, and it is easy to see why: each line is built around one good idea. Cumulus is a blown cotton — a fine nylon mesh filled with Mako cotton — so it weighs half what a worsted cotton usually does and knits into tees and summer cardigans that do not sag. Zooey is a rustic cotton-linen DK that softens with every wash. Herriot is 100% baby alpaca at a worsted gauge, the warmest thing on the shelf for its weight.
The farm's wool lines are worth knowing too. Moonshine Fine blends alpaca, wool, nylon and silk into a sock-and-shawl DK; Rambouillet is American-spun extrafine merino; Bluefaced Leicester has the lustre of the longwool it is named for. Bud, a chunky cotton slub, is the quick summer project. Juniper Moon is distributed in the US by Knitting Fever, and we carry the full colour cards on the lines above.
