Worsted / Aran Yarn

Worsted weight knits at 4–5 stitches to the inch on US 7–9 needles; aran is the slightly heavier end of the same class. It is the weight most sweater, hat and blanket patterns are written for, and the one to learn on: big enough to see, small enough to drape.

Expect around 200 yards to a 100 g skein. Superwash merino for garments that go in the machine, non-superwash wool and wool-mohair for anything you plan to felt.
