Shipping rates
US ground shipping is free on orders of $95 or more, after discounts and before tax. Below that threshold, standard ground is charged at checkout based on weight and destination.
Whatever services the carrier offers for your address are shown at checkout, with the rate for each, before you pay.
We ship within the United States for now.
Delivery times
Orders placed by 2pm Pacific Time on a business day typically leave our Sandpoint, Idaho warehouse the same day. Orders placed later, or on a weekend or holiday, go out the next business day.
Once a package leaves us, delivery is in the carrier's hands. Most orders arrive within about a week. Any estimate the carrier shows at checkout or in tracking is theirs, not a guarantee from us — carriers have been running behind lately, winter weather in the mountain west can add time, and wildfire, storms, floods and other events nobody controls can hold a truck up anywhere along the way. When that happens there's usually nothing either of us can do but wait it out.
You'll get a tracking email as soon as your package ships. If tracking stalls or your order is taking longer than you expected, tell us and we'll chase the carrier.
Colors and product photos
We use professional equipment and controlled lighting to take the best pictures we can, at the highest resolution we can serve, and we don't push the color around afterwards. That is as close as we know how to get it — but a photograph of yarn is not the yarn.
Color perception is partly subjective, no two screens or phones render it the same way, and hand-dyed yarn shifts from dye lot to dye lot by nature. So we can't guarantee the skeins you receive will match what you see on your screen, and we can't take responsibility for a difference between the two.
What we can do is help before you commit: write to us and we'll describe the color in the room, tell you how it reads against neutrals, or check it against a shade you already have. And if it still isn't right when it arrives, unused yarn is returnable — see returns below.
Matching dye lots
A dye lot is one run through the dye bath, and two lots of the same colorway can differ enough to show as a line in finished work.
When you order multiple skeins of the same colorway, we pull them from a single dye lot whenever stock allows. If we can't match lots, we contact you before shipping so you can choose to:
- take the mixed lots anyway,
- reduce to max quantity we have with same dye lot,
- swap to another colorway, or
- cancel the item for a full refund.
We can't guarantee a match against skeins you already own — lot numbers aren't listed on product pages because stock rotates. If you're topping up a project in progress, write to us with the lot number from your ball band before you order and we'll check what's on the shelf.
Returns
Unused yarn in original condition may be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund to your original payment method. Original shipping charges are not refunded, and return postage is the customer's responsibility unless the return is our error.
If your order shipped free, a return doesn't make that shipping free to us. Free shipping is a discount earned by the order as it was placed; when a return takes an order below the $95 threshold, or sends all of it back, we deduct the shipping we paid on that order — all of it or part — from your refund. This doesn't apply when the return is our error, or when what's left of the order still qualifies on its own.
To start a return, contact us first so we can issue a return authorization. Packages sent back without one can't be matched to an order and may be refused.
What we can't take back
- Yarn that has been wound, knitted, washed, or is no longer in its original condition
- Custom or special-order dye lots
- Items marked final sale
- Needles and Hooks
- Books, patterns, and digital downloads once opened
Exchanges
We don't run exchanges as a separate process. If you want something different, return the original for a refund and place a new order for what you'd rather have — that way the yarn you actually want ships now, instead of waiting on a package to reach us first.
If something arrives wrong
If an order arrives damaged, incomplete, or not what you ordered, we want to hear about it. Contact us within 14 days of delivery with your order number and a photo where relevant, and we'll do our best to put it right.
Canceling or changing an order
Reach us as soon as you can. Before an order is packed we can usually change or cancel it. Once it's packed or shipped we can't modify it, but the return policy above still applies.
Questions this page doesn't answer are in the help topics, or just write to us.
