Socks Yarn

Sock yarn is fingering weight built to take abrasion: superwash wool so it survives the washing machine, usually with 20–25% nylon so heels and toes last. A 100 g skein is a pair of adult socks with a little to spare.

Self-striping and gradient yarns do the colourwork for you on a plain sock; hand-painted skeins look best in a simple texture that lets the colour show.
