How reviews work
Reviews on this site are written by people who knit with the yarn. We show all of them, five stars or one. Here is exactly how it works.

Who can write one
Anyone. After an order ships we email a link that lets you review what you bought; those reviews carry a Verified buyer badge. You can also write one from any yarn's page, signed in to your account or with a name and an email address that you confirm by clicking a link we send. Those are marked Reviewer.
Reviews are collected for the whole yarn line — every colorway of Malabrigo Rios shares one set — and each review notes the colorway or size it was written about. Needles work the same way, by size.
Our own staff can post too, and are always labelled Yarn Country staff.
What we check, and what we don't
Every review is read by an automated check within seconds of being posted. It looks for spam, advertising, personal information, and content that is abusive or off-topic. A clean review goes live at once. One that raises a concern is read by a person at the shop, usually within two business days, and either published as written or declined — and we email you which.
We do not check for opinion. A one-star review of a yarn we love is published exactly like a five-star one. We never edit a review's words, and we never remove a review for being negative. The only edits ever made are to remove personal information such as a phone number.
Recommendations and helpfulness
Each review answers one question — would you recommend this to a fellow knitter? — and the share who said yes is shown alongside the star average. Anyone can mark a review helpful or not; the counts are shown and nothing else is done with them.
Incentives
We never pay for reviews, offer discounts for them, or ask for a particular rating. The review request email is sent once after an order, with one reminder, and you can unsubscribe from the footer of either or in your account settings.
Older ratings
Some yarns show star ratings from our previous site, written between 2005 and 2026. Those are shown with a note; where the original words survive they are shown too. A few reviews arrived by email over the years, and are marked Sent to us by email.
Questions and answers
Anyone can ask a question on a yarn's page, and anyone can answer. Yarn Country's own answers are marked, and a customer's answer we agree with gets a Yarn Country agrees note. Questions and answers pass the same check as reviews. For anything about an order, contact us instead — it is private and faster.
Removing your review
Every reviewer's confirmation email carries a link to remove the review. It comes down within the hour. You can also write to us and we will do it by hand.
Privacy
Your email address is never shown with a review, and is only used to confirm it is yours and to tell you when it is published or answered. The display name you choose is public. See our privacy policy for the rest.
