Self-Stripe Yarn

Self-striping yarn changes colour along the ball, so a plain sock, scarf or sweater stripes itself. Noro's long colour runs make bold, painterly stripes; Schoppel's Zauberball fades slowly from one shade to the next.

Stripe width depends on the row length, so a hat stripes narrower than a shawl in the same yarn — and matching two socks means starting each at the same point in the sequence.
