Studio Donegal spins in Kilcar, on the Atlantic coast of County Donegal, and its yarn is the real Irish tweed: a heathered ground with flecks of colour spun in. Soft Donegal is the aran-weight merino version — soft enough for a sweater worn next to the skin, with the nepped tweed look that a plain heather cannot fake. Darnie is the fingering-weight lambswool for lighter garments and colourwork.
